Poker Face

I can see a bunch of people getting involved in this music event “Song Lyric Sunday”, so I am gonna give it a try. We have to pick a song that picks with P or G. I’m going for “Poker Face”. This is Lady Gaga doing her thing.

The song is written by Nadir Khayat and Stefani Germanotta – aka Lady Ga Ga. It sold over 14 million copies the year of release making it one of the best sellers in the music industry – period. I always thought she was like a mix between Madonna and Bette Midler that had got lost in some fancy dress store. I think the best thing she has done is ditched the face paint and gone natural for her big film part and for the whole let’s support each other through covid. She organised the big concert of 2020.

So now I have started looking through her back catalogue and she is nuts. Anyway – she has sold a lot of records and seems to like being the pantomime performer. But I like her more natural side – just sitting in front of a piano and bellowing does it for me.

Mum mum mum mah
Mum mum mum mah
Mum mum mum mah
Mum mum mum mah
Mum mum mum mah

I wanna hold ’em like they do in Texas, please
Fold ’em, let ’em, hit me, raise it, baby, stay with me (I love it)
Love game intuition play the cards with Spades to start
And after he’s been hooked I’ll play the one that’s on his heart

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh-e-oh-oh-oh
I’ll get him hot, show him what I’ve got
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh-e-oh-oh-oh,
I’ll get him hot, show him what I’ve got

[Chorus:]
Can’t read my,
Can’t read my
No he can’t read my poker face
(she’s got me like nobody)
Can’t read my
Can’t read my
No he can’t read my poker face
(she’s got me like nobody)

P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face
(Mum mum mum mah)
P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face
(Mum mum mum mah)

I wanna roll with him a hard pair we will be
A little gambling is fun when you’re with me (I love it)
Russian Roulette is not the same without a gun
And baby when it’s love if it’s not rough it isn’t fun, fun

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh-e-oh-oh-oh
I’ll get him hot, show him what I’ve got
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh-e-oh-oh-oh,
I’ll get him hot, show him what I’ve got

[Chorus]

P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face
(Mum mum mum mah)
P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face
(Mum mum mum mah)
(Mum mum mum mah)
(Mum mum mum mah)

I won’t tell you that I love you
Kiss or hug you
Cause I’m bluffin’ with my muffin
I’m not lying, I’m just stunnin’ with my love-glue-gunning
Just like a chick in the casino
Take your bank before I pay you out
I promise this, promise this
Check this hand cause I’m marvelous

[Chorus 3x]

[3x]
P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face
(Mum mum mum mah)
P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face
(Mum mum mum mah)

  1. I look forward to seeing more of your posts Jacob and am pleased you found Song Lyric Sunday.
May I make a suggestion – and please don’t take this the wrong way – I believe Jim is happy for us to pick freely songs that fit his theme – but on the whole we seem to be rather a friendly bunch who take part. Lady Ga Ga has two sides to her I have always felt – the genuine talented and sweet hearted woman who wants to help others endure the pandemic – and yes, I too cheered her on with the concert she organised. But the other side to her seems to like to shock. You don’t seem particularly a fan of hers, so I don’t mind mentioning to you that the friendly bloggers who take part in SLS certainly enjoy the variety of music, but might not enjoy tracks quite so much that are overly edgy – is that even the right word? I just remember reading one of her interviews about this song and all it’s innuendo. I felt this was one of her “out to shock” songs. Perhaps I am being unfair. I like her natural look and her acoustic work much more than her pantomime dame productions.
I wonder if 2020 has steered many away from cabaret and has sent us back to more grass roots music preferences?
Don’t feel stifled by what I have said, but it’s a good idea to understand who takes part in Song Lyric Sunday. I hope you receive a very warm welcome and enjoy the variety of music the participants feature.

    1. Lady A – thanks for the heads up.
      Respect.
I had a look at the other songs people had chosen – felt like maybeez I’d crashed the wrong party. I am not even into LGG, just thought I would pick a big song. Numbers aren’t everything though.
Thanks for your support. Hope you are having a blessed Sunday.
