Wednesday Writer – Rigozo

This week we have the sensational Rigozo in the hot-seat and what an incredible interview we have in store for you!

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DRINK WHILE WE ARE CONDUCTING THIS INTERVIEW WITH YOU?

Hello Jacob, glad to be here. I would love to have a cup of black tea with lemon juice, no sugar, please.

COULD YOU TELL US YOUR BLOGGING NAME AND THE NAME OF YOUR SITE PLEASE?

My blogging name is Rigozo. I came up with it myself several years ago, and I just loved how unique it sounded, you know. I didn’t think twice when it got down to using it for my blog.

My site is Waking Dreams – Unmasked. It is something I picked up from a book (nobody is surprised).

WHEN DID YOU START BLOGGING?

That would be April 2020.

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING?

This one is easy. It was corona virus, and the threat of human annihilation. I’d desired to start a couple of years back around the time some of my friends started, but never got to it. It was this space I wanted where I could read, share stories, and indulge my love for photography and arts.

Last year I said to myself, ‘Uhm, now that the apocalypse is upon us, don’t you think this is a good time to start this blog already?’ Same way I said, ‘Who knows what next is going happen, most likely an alien invasion or cats will finally take over the world, why bother?’ I find procrastination to be one of my issues.

In any case, I had the support of my family and close friends of course, and I think they were more excited than I was when I eventually started blogging.

WHICH IS THE MOST POPULAR POST ON YOUR SITE?

Chasing Happiness. It has no rival. Interesting thing is, it’s my very first post. I think I poured out everything in that story because it was freeing to take that first step at last.

I think I am shocked because I didn’t expect it to start with.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING?

As an introvert I’m huge on personal space but it is wonderful to meet people and feel like a part of a community. I have met amazing writers and read even more lovely works that have inspired my work. Well, there are so many opportunities to explore, and I am willing to take them.

Recently, I started featuring writers and it has been amazing sharing their works. I also want to do this for photographers and other artists. In the end I want people to connect, as well as share; something I didn’t think I could handle that I now absolutely enjoy.

Also, it helped me improve my writing. I love to write short stories and poems, also hope to be a published author in the nearest future. I have had a few submissions and I’m now growing my own pile of rejection mails. Hah! I’m curious to see how it all turns out eventually.

FOOD THAT MAKES YOU SMILE?

That would be having fried plantain as a main dish or side dish. It makes me weak in the knees.

IF I WAS GOING TO SEND YOU FLOWERS AS A THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME INTERVIEW, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

To be honest I have never gotten flowers before, I’m sure I’ll be thrilled with anything you send. I’ll be like wow, for me? Thank you so much.

So Rigozo, I wanted to explain why I ask bloggers this question. I walk to work, and every morning I pass two shops that are next door to each other which always give me a massive uplift without fail. One is an artisan bakery which has the most amazing aromas of fresh bread and herbs, which always makes me hungry. Next door is the most beautiful store I pass. It is an expensive florists, but during the pandemic they have been able to stay open by selling fruit and vegetables as well. They have so many different types of flowers all year round and they are gorgeous but what I also notice is the fragrances coming from them. It is just the happiest place in South London.

I walk past and think if I had the money, I would send those to my mum, and those to the aunties. So I am not great with knowing which flowers are which, but I would send you a bouquet to match the amazing personality that has come through in your interview – with bright colours and the sweetest fragrance.

DO YOU HAVE A SONG? ONE THAT FITS YOU AS A PERSON OR YOUR LIFE?

I love music but I haven’t found that one song. It seems like too much to ask. Unlike books that help me escape reality for a time, music keeps me grounded. I’ll listen to a song because I can relate with it on a deeper level, the same way I’ll listen to it because I love to bust a move and unwind. I love that music can do so much for me.

One of my go to song would be Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds.

DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING IN LIFE?

Goosebumps!  Well, I’m grateful to God and see every day as another chance to do better for myself. I’m fascinated about aging and it fuels my love for old things like, antiques, retro music, vintage outfits, and pictures.

It has helped me to blur the lines between the past, present and future, so sometimes I feel like taking a step back is taking a step forward. Where I’m going is as important to me as where I’m coming from, therefore I do my best today in the hopes that it will make tomorrow better.

People search for where they feel accepted, appreciated, and loved for simply existing. I hope to always find such a place as I journey through life. I just want a memorable existence for myself and wish the same for everyone else. I see myself finding happiness in the things I do, with the people I love and most importantly, within myself.

WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU WANT YOUR BLOG TO TELL THE WORLD?

I didn’t know I wanted to send a message to the world until you asked.

I’m hopeful to eventually make people see how much our lives can be enriched by appreciating the little things. A smile, a word of encouragement and a helping hand will go a long way in transforming people’s lives.

Wow! I mean WOW! Rigozo – that was a spectacular! I was thrilled when I read through your answers to the interview questions, but especially those last two are so special.
