Tuesday News

There was some good news reported this past week, but I could not resist featuring this report about Lucy Sparrow. I work in a Pharmacy, and I was amazed by her latest art exhibition.

She has put together an entire Pharmacy made of felt! Everything she has made looks so intricate.

Take a closer look at her work and the story behind her art:

Manic Monday

That time we dread is here: STOCKTAKE!

Why is it a fearsome thing. An external team come in. They take forever! We have to carry on with work, serving customers and dispensing prescriptions.

Suddenly it becomes very cosy with six people instead of three working in a small space. They have to ask us questions throughout the day. As closing time drawers to a close, often they have still not finished and we have to break away from our work to make sure that we the job is finished and we can lock up and go home before midnight.

Sally Is A Rock Chick

I noticed something odd this week and it made choosing a song for this week’s theme harder than I expected. Jim asked us to find songs that feature a girl’s name, so long as it starts with the letter “S”. That seemed fine. But when I typed in a few names into a lyric website, it listed song after song after song with lyrics that were not cool, not cool at all. All about what guys want to do to girls with a name beginning with S. I will leave that to your imagination. I just thought it was crazy though. Is this ok? All these songs, not about love, but about…well, I didn’t want to feature any of them.

I found a song that I never heard before. I chose it because it is sweet. This is Shwayze with the track “Sally Is A…”

Sally is a Hippie girl one day
Sally is a Rock chick the next
Sally is a Hiphop Baby then a drip pop lady
But there's one thing Sally says everyday, its
She loves me, She loves me just the way I am (yeah)
She loves me, She loves me just the way I am
(Hey, hey, hey)

I got a girl named Sally, she like to keep it trendy
One day its hippy chic, next day its gucci fendi
She got a gold chain, like it was 1980
She buys 3 magazines a week, just to see who I'm datin'
I been to Paris, London, & still.. I come back to Sally
Cuz' I know how she feels

Sally is a Hippie girl one day
Sally is a Rock chick the next
Sally is a Hiphop Baby then a drip pop lady
But there's one thing Sally says everyday, its
She loves me, She loves me just the way I am
She loves me, She loves me just the way I am
(Just the way I am)

I got a girly girl, but she's a tomboy
She like to go nuts, my little almond joy
I try to make her blush, but she's just way too tough
Yeah she's so emo with her makeup and her haircut
She's a rich girl but she could careless; American Apparel
With her dads American Express. She's a college girl
Lettin' lose at night In a mini skirt, sippin' goose and sprite
She's all around the world, she ain't your average girl
And everytime I leave, I'm comin' back to her

Sally is a Hippie girl one day
Sally is a Rock chick the next
Sally is a Hiphop Baby then a drip pop lady
But there's one thing Sally says everyday & its
She loves me, She loves me just the way I am
She loves me, She loves me just the way I am
(Just the way I am)

To all my Sally's out there, put your hearts in the air
tell me where you wanna go and I take you there
i take you there, girl I take you there I take you there
To all my Sally's out there, put your hearts in the air
tell me where you wanna go and I take you there
i take you there, girl I take you there I take you there

Saturday Snaps

I found a lot of photographs from a trip to Liverpool on my camera. This one is a photo I took of a painting we saw in an art shop near to the Albert Docks.

If you know Liverpool, you will probably recognize some of the well known sites and some extra features that make Liverpool iconic. Here are a few to look out for starting from the left:

  • The Liver building
  • The Beetles
  • The yellow submarine
  • The Anglican cathedral
  • The Catholic cathedral
  • West Tower
  • The ferry (on the Mersey)
  • Lime Street Staion
  • Radio City Tower
  • Wellington’s Column
  • Unity Residential
  • Superlambanana
  • Liverpool Town Hall
  • Albert Dock
  • St George’s Hall

Blogging

I started the WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? blog on the 1st January 2021. New year, new project. We were at the start of what would turn out to be a very long third National Lockdown. What can I say? It has been amazing!

But life is getting busy again. Work has always been busy throughout the Pandemic, but now we have even more footfall at the Pharmacy and we are staying open for longer hours. Plus, I am back playing sports with friends and just hanging out – outdoors of course at the moment.

What I am trying to say is…I might be cutting back on blogging. I am proud of my site. This week I started making a few changes so that it is easier for anyone visiting my site to find some of my posts over the past few months.

You might notice in the primary menu there are two additional pages:

INTERVIEWS

and

MUSIC

They give you an easy way to find all of the WEDNESDAY WRITER interviews I have conducted so far and all of the songs I have featured as part of Jim Adam’s SONG LYRIC SUNDAY. Please feel free to check them out.

I might add a couple of other pages if I have time. I am not disappearing completely. The blog has been great fun and I have loved connecting with other bloggers. I can just tell that it is becoming harder to squeeze into free time.

Thank you for all of your amazing support so far! It’s been a total revelation to me that having your own site could be so enjoyable.

Thursday Verse

How long, O LORD, must I cry for help, but you do not hear? How long must I ask for help from violence, but you do not intervene? Why do you make me witness wrongdoing? And why do you tolerate oppression? Why are destruction and violence before me? And why do quarrelling and conflict abound? So law is paralyzed, And justice is never carried out. For the wicked surround the righteous; That is why justice is perverted.

HABAKKUK1:2-4

When you watch news reports featuring shocking acts of violence and the distressing effects of crime and political corruption, how do you feel? Have you ever asked inwardly, how long will God allow these disturbing events to go on for? How long will wickedness go on for?

How does God feel about us asking those questions? Is it not remarkable that God has recorded the sincere questions of righteous men and women who were distressed about the conditions around them! The fact is that any peace loving individual ought to feel deep concern about the state of the world today. When we ask “how long?” it is not a sign we lack faith, but a sign that we long for the fulfilment of God’s purposes on this earth.

God not only preserved this honest hearted question in his Holy Word, but He also dignifies humans by answering our questions. Anyone who has read God’s Word will know that we are living in the time of the end. The end of wickedness. Soon we will see a clean earth and true peace ushered in as God’s Will is done on earth as it is in heaven.

Tuesday News

I absolutely love reading stories of people doing heroic things to rescue others. But some stand out as really special.

This BBC News report features Jack Nicol from Llandudno and his heroism on Saturday in rescuing a mother and son from a boat that was on fire on Conwy. It is hard not to be impressed when you learn that Mr Nicol is 82 years of age and happens to be blind.

I am sure you will be as impressed as I was about this rescue:

Amazing Jack!!

Manic Monday

Last week I watched the news on Friday morning which claimed that every adult in England could collect a box of lateral flow tests from locations such as Pharmacies.

Having left work last thing on Thursday night, I thought to myself, “Oh no, we are going to end up with a queue of people coming to ask for lateral flow test kits when we don’t have any. But to my surprise, when I turned up on Friday morning, there they were – a huge box of lateral flow test kits was waiting for us.

No sooner had they arrived than people started to pour in to ask for them.

Happy

Songs with one word titles – we can do that! I know this might be one of the overplayed songs of the 21st centuries – but when something is this positive, you don’t mind too much.

Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” won a stack of awards and broke records. It is catchy, infectious, and hard not to smile at. How many cover videos have you seen of people at work or school dancing along to this track? It is just one of those songs that everyone knows and everyone has enjoyed the fun of. We need more happy songs in this world.

It might seem crazy what I'm about to say
Sunshine she's here, you can take a break
I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space
With the air, like I don't care, baby, by the way

Uh

(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do

Here come bad news, talking this and that (Yeah!)
Well, give me all you got, don't hold it back (Yeah!)
Well, I should probably warn you I'll be just fine (Yeah!)
No offense to you
Don't waste your time, here's why

(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do

Bring me down
Can't nothing bring me down
My level's too high to bring me down
Can't nothing bring me down, I said
Bring me down
Can't nothing bring me down
My level's too high to bring me down
Can't nothing bring me down, I said

(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
