Thursday Verse

From the beginning I foretell the outcome, And from long ago the things that have not yet been done. I say, ‘My decision (or purpose) will stand, And I will do whatever I please.’

– ISAIAH 46:10

This verse fills me with confidence. How many politicians make pledges and promises to secure votes into office, but then later abandon them when it seems inconvenient or impossible to honour them?

Yet the true God is able to say thousands of years of advance that He will end wickedness and He will establish a clean earth full of healthy creatures. There is no obstacle to the fulfilment of God’s purposes that He cannot overcome. Indeed, whatever pleases Him will take place.

It is clear from the scriptures that we are living deep in the time of the end of wickedness. Soon we will see the fulfilment of God’s Will on earth.

Wednesday Writers – Mick And Liesel

This week’s WEDNESDAY WRITER is focusing on a fun loving couple who have been sharing with us their antics and their adventures, and inspiring us to enjoy the good in life.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DRINK WHILE WE ARE CONDUCTING THIS INTERVIEW WITH YOU?

First thing in the morning, it would have been a cup of tea.

Mid-afternoon, I’ll have a decaff latte please.

This post is scheduled to be published at midnight Mick, so I have made you a cuppa and thrown in some cookies because you mentioned liking them!

COULD YOU TELL US YOUR BLOGGING NAME AND THE NAME OF YOUR SITE PLEASE?

I’m Mick and my wife is Liesel. We started the blog together: it was meant to be 50-50 but I seem to be the main contributor, but I’m not complaining. It’s called Mick and Liesel’s Antics:

https://mickandlieselsantics.com/

Mick I love the tagline on your site: “Adventures in KT9, M22, infinity and beyond”.

WHEN DID YOU START BLOGGING?

We started this blog in February 2018. We’d both dabbled before, but without any real purpose. I did a blog about Radio for a while, but realised I was mostly just reproducing second-hand news and putting in my own second-rate reviews.

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING?

This time, it was to document some big changes in our lives. I’d retired, Liesel was between jobs, my daughter Jenny gave birth to our granddaughter, and we decided to move house to be closer to them.

Also, we thought we’d go travelling while we still could. ‘Adventure before dementia’, as we saw on a car bumper. Our so-called grown-up gap year. That was an adventure. It’s been interesting writing about how we’ve coped during the pandemic.

WHICH IS THE MOST POPULAR POST ON YOUR SITE?

I had to look this up. Other than the ‘About’ page and the ‘Home page’, the most read single post is one entitled ‘Singapore (Part 2)’, describing a few days in the city-state during our travels.

Please don’t ask what was wrong with ‘Singapore (Part 1)‘!

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING?

For me, the discipline of writing something at all each week is good mental exercise. Especially during this time of lockdown, when we’re not allowed to go anywhere or do much outside our neighbourhood. Also, it’s more enjoyable that writing a detailed, daily journal by hand, which I used to do years ago.

FOOD THAT MAKES YOU SMILE?

My comfort food is a cheese and tomato sandwich, so I was delighted when I saw Stephen Fry advocate such a delicacy on Twitter a couple of days ago.

Oh, and chocolate, cakes and cookies of course.

IF I WAS GOING TO SEND YOU FLOWERS AS A THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME INTERVIEW, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

Thanks, you don’t need to, but a nice bunch of pink carnations always reminds me of my Mum, they were her favourite flower.

DO YOU HAVE A SONG? ONE THAT FITS YOU AS A PERSON OR YOUR LIFE?

I don’t always feel it, but The Carpenters’ Top of the World has been in my life for many years, decades even.

I try to be positive and look on he bright side of things, but it’s difficult sometimes in today’s political environment, with big problems such as the climate emergency.

You are so right Mick! I am so glad that at last climate change is being given more attention by the media and social media but we need drastic changes and we need them now!

DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING IN LIFE?

Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that I am retired, I don’t need to seek work, every day is a ‘bank holiday’ and I am free to do what I want (other than the current, temporary Covid restrictions of course), and I know how lucky I am in this respect. On the other hand, I hope there are still some surprises to come.

WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU WANT YOUR BLOG TO TELL THE WORLD?

I hope it’s a positive thing. I hope readers are laughing with me rather than at me, but either way, laughter is a good thing.

Yes, I do like a moan and a whinge now and then. One message is that it’s possible to have a good time later in life, that the world isn’t really against us even if it feels that way sometimes.

***

Thank you so much to Mick and to Liesel for agreeing to be featured as part of the WEDNESDAY WRITER series. I loved looking back at your posts about your travels around Asia and Australia, North America and closer to home. I wonder where the two of you will head to next! I would definitely recommend Ghana!

I can only imagine that you are both longing for restrictions to be lifted (when it is safe of course) so that you can really make the most of spending time with your family and resuming your incredible travels again!

Tuesday News

This week I enjoyed a report about a team from a hospital in Cardiff. They explained how much energy is consumed by the equipment used to cared for Covid-19 patients in an Intensive Care Unit.

To contribute to our environment they have been out in the countryside planting one thousand trees and are hoping others will follow suit.

You can watch a report about the team doing this on the BBC website:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/science-environment-56944931

I really felt for one of the guys who explained how intense it has been for him working in the hospital for long hours throughout the Pandemic. It was clear he appreciated the chance to be out with nature and was so glad to be able to do a little towards helping our climate and the natural world around us.

Manic Monday

So one of the scenarios that slows work down enormously at work is when a customer brings an item to the counter and you scan it through the till and the price registers as more than the customer is expecting.

We have a non-stop flow of work inside the dispensary. It is hard to explain the volume of work in the form of prescriptions to dispense, dosette boxes to compile, and a heap of administration tasks in connection with our patients and suppliers. The phone rings all day with patients asking questions about their medication.

So when a customer comes to the pharmacy with a mascara that scans as £8.99 and they say that the label said £6.99 my heart just sinks. The only way I can know is to leave the dispensary, trek across the shop floor, try to make sense of the labels which are often all mixed up, figure out which mascara the customer has, find the matching label and clarify the price the store is advertising the product as. If we have advertised it as the lower price, the manager’s will do a refund of the price difference and check the pricing, perhaps replacing the label if there is a mistake.

Only…there are some rules that make the task a nightmare. If I have scanned the product at £8.99 it is sitting there on the screen. If I leave the till to go and check the shop floor, I have to log out of the till, only I cannot do that until the transaction has been voided. Only I am not allowed to void transactions. Only a manager can. The manager’s are usually on the shop floor or upstairs in the office. I cannot leave the till to go and find the manager because it leaves the till vulnerable. So I have to wait for a passing member of staff and ask them to find the manager.

All this time the customer is looking at me as if I am hopeless….and I am thinking of all the work piling up in the dispensary. Eventually the manager comes along and voids the transaction. Then I go and try to figure out the labels for the mascaras. As far as I can see, the customer is right, our label says £6.99. Only I am not authorized to change the price of that the product scans as, only the manager can do that!

The manager has disappeared again. This time I am free to go and search for her. I have to ask the customer to wait again, while I check all parts of the shop floor and then run up to the office. I cannot find her anywhere. Eventually she reappears, apparently she was in the ladies.

The manager looks after the customer and corrects the label. I have just lost twenty minutes to one stinking mascara! It can be incredibly frustrating when this happens several times in a day.

He’s So Willin’ To Make Whoopee

I have always loved the chance to learn more about some of the greatest singers of the 20th Century. They all have amazing life stories and sometimes tragic demises.

Dinah Washington is credited with being one of the most popular singers of the 1950s. She was incredibly diverse and sang comfortably in various genres – jazz, blues, pop, gospel – this lady could sing! I have chosen just one of the songs that she makes sensational. This is Dinah Washington with “Makin’ Whoopee”.

Another bride, another June
Another sunny honeymoon
Another season, another reason
For makin' whoopee

A lot of shoes, a lot of rice
The groom is nervous; he answers twice
It's really killin'
That he's so willin' to make whoopee

Picture a little love nest
Down where the roses cling
Picture the same sweet love nest
Think what a year can bring

He's washin' dishes and baby clothes
He's so ambitious he even sews
But don't forget, folks
That's what you get, folks, for makin' whoopee

Another year or maybe less
What's this I hear? Well, you can't confess
She feels neglected, and he's suspected
Of makin' whoopee

She sits alone 'most every night
He doesn't phone her; he doesn't write
He says he's busy, but she says, "Is he?"
He's makin' whoopee

He doesn't make much money
Only five thousand per
Some judge who thinks he's funny
Says, "You'll pay six to her"

He says, "Now, Judge, suppose I fail?"
The judge says, "Budge right into jail"
You'd better keep her; I think it's cheaper
Than makin' whoopee

You'd better keep her
I know it's cheaper
Than makin' whoopee

Saturday Snaps

It feels like so long ago since we had chance to visit the Blue Mountains Range in New South Wales (Southern Australia). It is hard to explain how awe-inspiring a location this is.

There are some places on earth that are so humbling. This vast expanse of mountain range with miles upon miles of eucalyptus trees is one of them.

Friday Five

I love reading the posts other bloggers have published. I have decided to share with you some of my favourites from the past week, and a little of why I enjoyed them.

There are such a wide variety of posts from other bloggers, and I love the variety of subjects and the styles of different bloggers. But I know some posts I remember because of the motivation within them. I like to be inspired.

DEBRA MARY – Week Of Midnight Meals: April 2021

Food, Dinner, Lunch, Restaurant

How could I not choose my favourite foodie post of the week? The chicken dishes Debra suggested really had me drooling, but there is plenty in Debra’s post for vegetable lovers too. Debra’s food looks delicious and healthy – what more could I ask?

JIM ADAMS – Willing To Adapt

Change, Arrows, Clouds, Sky, Direction

Jim’s post about change really got me thinking. I know at work, we sometimes find change alarming at first. We have had to be so flexible and adaptable throughout the past year especially. I love Jim’s discussion of how regards change.

DOMINCA MAY – The Job Hunt Process And Lessons In Networking

Woman, Business, Fashion, Young, Office

I was so impressed by Dominica’s energy and organised approach. The way she discusses challenges and solutions, and is so determined – it is truly inspiring.

CARAMEL – More Of A Purpose Than A Plan

Another very inspirational post. Caramel’s post highlights resilience when things don’t go according to plan in our life. I loved the comparison to taking a journey and coming across obstacles on our route. We don’t just give up and go home. If we really want to get to our destination, we find another route. She shows why having a clear purpose is so much better than being tied to a a plan.

SYDNEY ROSE – The Way God Leads…

Clouds, Sky, Light, Head, Silhouette

I found reading the way Sydney expresses her faith truly uplifting. It reminded me of a special scripture that has so much meaning in Genesis 48:15: “…The true God who has been shepherding me during all my life until this day.”

Thursday Verse

And I saw the wild beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the one seated on the horse and against his army.

REVELATION 19:19

Throughout the book of Revelation we see Jesus in his role as a conquering King, riding for true justice. Some people think of the book of Revelation as bad news. But it is in fact forecasting the end of “those ruining the earth”, the Devil and other spirit creatures who have sided with him, corrupt rulers, hypocritic religious leaders, greedy merchants and the organizations that they sponsor who are meant to appear enlightened and noble, but often behave destructively.

Up to now, God has allowed the challenge raised in the garden of Eden to be answered. Are humans qualified to rule themselves? Thousands of years of history record the results of human rulership. To do this day, human rulers are allowed to rule over the rest of mankind. What is the state of mankind today? You can decide for yourself how successful human rulership is.

But in the near future, the scriptures predict momentous events as human rulers desperately try to cling to their power. How will they gather to wage war against Christ Jesus? Jesus is in heaven. The scriptures indicate that as never before we will need to trust God’s ability to protect His people.

Wednesday Writer – Zoe Morrison

If your week has been dull so far, we have a blogger today who is sure to bring some life and colour to brighten up your week. Zoe is taking the hot seat today and you are in from a treat from Zoe!

ZOE – WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DRINK WHILE WE ARE CONDUCTING THIS INTERVIEW WITH YOU?

Since I am your special guest of honour today – why don’t we make it champagne!

Drink, Champagne, Alcohol, Celebration

Why not Zoe! Hey, since WordPress are covering my expenses – shall we order something else – like caviar or the most expensive dish on the menu?

COULD YOU TELL US YOUR BLOGGING NAME AND THE NAME OF YOUR SITE PLEASE.

Of course! So I am Zoe Morrison, and I called my blog “ZOE means LIFE“. I chose my blogging logo because it shows electric colour against a dark background. I am so drawn to bright colour against a dark. Like the stars at night, or fireworks. I find it exciting.

WHEN DID YOU START BLOGGING?

I published my first post on 9th February 2021. It was called “Live Life”

https://treatsforzoe.wordpress.com/2021/02/09/live-life/

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING?

I guess it was because of boredom in some ways. During the past year, life seems to have moved online. Some of my friends had started blogs and I could see they were having fun. I thought it would be something that could cheer me up and add some fun to our dull lockdown existence.

WHICH IS THE MOST POPULAR POST ON YOUR SITE?

There are two posts which are in joint poll position – both with 21 likes!

They are a poem I called “Heart Spark” and one of my Song Lyric Sunday posts called “She Will Still Torment Me“.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING?

Hugh is the best thing about blogging 🙂

Wow – you are so adorable Zoe! I hope Hugh is reading this!

FOOD THAT MAKES YOU SMILE?

Definitely that has to be chocolate – which is a frequent topic for my blog. I feature Zoe’s Treats – which are normally the different chocolate treats I have bought to give myself a well done after a hard week at work!

But the chocolate treat that cheers me up the most is Smarties. I love the bright colours! They are so much fun!

IF I WAS GOING TO SEND YOU FLOWERS AS A THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME INTERVIEW, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

I don’t really mind so long as they are a colourful mix.

At this time of year, I love all of the different coloured tulips on display at florists.

DO YOU HAVE A SONG? ONE THAT FITS YOU AS A PERSON OR YOUR LIFE?

I really like this question…and there are so many songs I love but I don’t know which one fits me best. But it would have to be a song about life, living life to the full! Something lively and full of spark.

I have seen a song on some other blogs which I really like – and I guess because I identify with the electric energy of life and feeling confident about who I am, I think it is probably the song that really picks me up. It is called “I Am” and it is by Club Yoko. It is so cool!!

When I was thinking about this question, I actually found a song called “Live Life” by a group called ZOEgirl. How bizarre is that?!!!

Yeah – I know – it’s awful!!! Still it was worth mentioning for the title and the name of the group!

DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING IN LIFE?

I thought I did. I don’t know anymore. The Pandemic has changed the plan a little. After I graduated, I was in the process of applying for jobs. But the only one that took me was a grocery retailer. It can be depressing at times. But I try to remember not to let my job define who I am. I needed to start earning money to help out at home, so it was right to take the job I was offered and find some enjoyment in stacking shelves and serving customers.

I don’t think I should be overly worried about where I am going right now. To me, it feels as if the world is being shaken up by all sorts of issues – not just the Pandemic. I think the world is changing rapidly, and I am not sure whether it is for good or bad. I am trying to keep my focus on my family and friends and being a nice person.

Once the world settles down a little, it will be easier to make some plans for the future and think more about my own personal happiness and what I want in life. For now, I count it as a blessing that I am happy.

WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU WANT YOUR BLOG TO TELL THE WORLD?

Why don’t we just start again? I mean it is so obvious that this boat is sinking!!! Why don’t we just reset everything and start again from zero. The economy should be reset. People should be treated fairly in every land. There should be no borders. No class systems. No racial barriers.

We are a multi-cultural human race but we are family. We need to let love rule. Pollution should not be allowed. Violence should not be tolerated.

Life is for living! Life is for loving! Life should be colourful and musical and wonderful. What an amazing planet we live on – full of life and colour!! Life is here – now – and we should make it special!

_________________

That was so lively and fun Zoe! You have so much energy for living and bring so much buzz along with you. I know it is hard to make plans at the moment with the world being turbulent – but I am sure you have an amazing future ahead of you!

Tuesday News

I am sorry this post did not go live last night. That was my fault for messing up my scheduling. But I promise you it is worth the wait.

This is not only good news, this is just about the cutest news I have seen this month. We are returning to the animal kingdom to cheer us up (because sometimes people seem to mean more bad news than good) and this week’s TUESDAY NEWS comes from Bristol.

Have you heard of a mouse deer before? These little creatures look like the most adorable animals. I could easily fall in love with those eyes! Last week a baby mouse deer was born over at Bristol zoo and it is not much taller than a pencil!

Please read this gorgeous report all about this sweet little baby:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-56841632

I love that it enjoys eating sweet potato. Oh my! I am seriously in love with this little baby.

What a wonderful planet we live on and share with a spectacular array of creatures. How much joy we have ahead of us, once this earth is swept clean of greed and corruption.
