My Life’s A Circus

I am going to try to start 2022 the way I mean to go on. So, here is my first post for Jim Adam’s Song Lyric Sunday for this year. One of the words in this week’s theme is “circus”, so I have picked an awesome singer – Emile Sandé.

This song is called “Clown” and I read it was all about when she was trying to get signed up for a record deal. She has said this song is about not letting others judge you or treat you like an idiot.

Song credits: Emile Sandé and Shahid Khan.

I guess it's funnier from where you're standing
'Cause from over here I missed the joke
Clear the way for my crash landing
I've done it again
Another number for your notes

I'd be smiling if I wasn't so desperate
I'd be patient if I had the time
I could stop and answer all of your questions
As soon as I find out
How I can move from the back of the line

I'll be your clown
Behind the glass
Go 'head and laugh
'Cause it's funny
I would too if I saw me
I'll be your clown
On your favourite channel
My life's a circus circus
Round in circles
Selling out tonight

I'd be less angry if it was my decision
And the money was just rolling in
If I had more than my ambition
I'll have time for 'Please'
I'll have time for 'Thank you'
As soon as I win

I'll be your clown
Behind the glass
Go 'head and laugh
'Cause it's funny
I would too if I saw me
I'll be your clown
On your favourite channel
My life's a circus circus
Round in circles
Selling out tonight

From a distance my choice is simple
From a distance I can entertain
So you can see me
I put make-up on my face
But there's no way you can feel it
From so far away

I'll be your clown
Behind the glass
Go 'head and laugh
'Cause it's funny
I would too if I saw me
I'll be your clown
On your favourite channel
My life's a circus circus
Round in circles
I'm selling out tonight

That’s The Way

I am still trying to find some regular time to get back into the swing of things with blogging. Now that we have started flu vaccinations as well as all the other work we have to do, my hours have increased and I am hardly ever home. But today is a day of rest for me. My parents have gone away and so I am chilling out and trying to catch up on sleep and my washing. Later on I am going to try to spend a couple of hours updating my blog and scheduling some new posts.

I have been reading other blogs in my spare time and I noticed what some of you are doing with Spotify – Lady Lewis and Pinkette gave me the idea of putting together my own Spotify playlist for all my Song Lyric Sunday picks over the course of 2021. So here it is:

Maybe I picked an obvious song choice for today’s theme – a tribute to Fandango, the blogger behind This, That And The Other. But this is a deserving song. It had international success and was top of the charts in many lands. It was popular on the radio, but even more popular in night clubs.

This is KC And The Sunshine Band, with “That’s The Way (I Like It)”.

Ride Into The Danger Zone

I am loving the theme Jim has picked for today’s Song Lyric Sunday and the songs that have already been picked by other bloggers.

But I am going for an obvious choice. The first word in Jim’s theme is “danger”. It has to be Kenny Loggins “Highway To The Danger Zone”, a song I love.

On a serious note, we’ve been watching the news all morning, and literally, my gut is gripped with terror on behalf of people in Kabul. I don’t think this can possibly turn out to be a pretty situation. Right now, there is a lot of talk about a peaceful transition of power. Really?

Maybe it’s because of all the prophecies about religion, politics, a false cry of peace, a greater tribulation than has ever been seen before that the hairs are standing up on the back of my neck. I know that the end result will be an end to all the terrible things that happen in this world, and a new start for mankind and this earth – but I am terrified for people who are suffer because of the turbulence in this current state of affairs.

War, violence, you would have thought that by now mankind would have learnt their lesson. I can’t remember feeling this kind of fear inside for the sake of millions of people I have never even met before.

I’m gonna stop there, because it is stressing me out just thinking about it all. I’m so glad for my family and the good things in the world, the good people in the world.

Anyway…here is the song I picked…”Highway To The Danger Zone”.

Credits: Giorgio Moroder and Thomas Ross Whitlock

Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go

Highway to the danger zone
Ride into the danger zone

Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the deck
And shovin' into overdrive

Highway to the danger zone
I'll take you
Right into the danger zone

They never say "Hello" to you
Until you get it on the red-line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go

Out along the edge
Is always where I burn to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity

Highway to the danger zone
I'm gonna take you
Right into the danger zone
Highway to the danger zone
Ride into the danger zone

Highway to the danger zone
I'm gonna take you
Right into the danger zone
Highway to the danger zone
Ride into the danger zone

Highway to the danger zone
I'm gonna take you
Right into the danger zone
Highway to the danger zone
Ride into the danger zone

Highway to the danger zone
I'm gonna take you
Right into the danger zone

Would You Let Me See Beneath Your Beautiful?

Jim has picked a beautiful theme this week, and that means beautiful songs too. I knew i had to pick a song that gives me goosebumps. It is so personal…pleading for someone to open up and share their imperfections, the real them. It’s a profound song. But it is set on fire by Labrinth and Emeli Sandé .

The song is called “Beneath Your Beautiful and was written by Mike Posner, Timothy McKenzie and Emeli Sandé.

You tell all the boys "No"
Makes you feel good, yeah
I know you're out of my league
But that won't scare me away, oh, no

You've carried on so long
You couldn't stop if you tried it
You've built your wall so high
That no one could climb it
But I'm gonna try

Would you let me see beneath your beautiful?
Would you let me see beneath your perfect?
Take it off now, girl, take it off now, girl
I wanna see inside
Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight?

You let all the girls go
Makes you feel good, don't it?
Behind your Broadway show
I heard a boy say, "Please, don't hurt me"

You've carried on so long
You couldn't stop if you tried it
You've built your wall so high
That no one could climb it
But I'm gonna try

Would you let me see beneath your beautiful?
Would you let me see beneath your perfect?
Take it off now, boy, take it off now, boy
I wanna see inside
Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight, oh, tonight?

See beneath, see beneath
I...
Tonight
I...

I'm gonna climb on top your ivory tower
I'll hold your hand and then we'll jump right out
We'll be falling, falling but that's OK
'Cause I'll be right here
I just wanna know

Would you let me see beneath your beautiful?
Would you let me see beneath your perfect?
Take it off now, girl, take it off now, girl (take it off now, boy, take it off now, boy)
'Cause I wanna see inside
Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight, oh, oh, oh, tonight?
See beneath your beautiful, oh, tonight
We ain't perfect, we ain't perfect, no
Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight?

Get Into My Car

I know it is late, but I have been looking through the songs that other bloggers chose for today’s Song Lyric Sunday car theme, and I had to add one that came into my head.

This is the hugely successful “Get Outta My Dreams (Get Into My Car)” from the fantastic Billy Ocean.

GET OUTTA MY DREAMS

Hey (hey) you (you), get into my car
Who me?
Yes you, get into my car
Wooooooooooooooh. Wah! Yeah!

Who's that lady
Coming down the road
Who's that lady
Who's that woman
Walking through my door
What's the score
I'll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey Cinderella
Step in your shoe
I'll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my dreams
Get into my car
Get outta my dreams
Get in the back seat baby
Get into my car
Beep beep, yeah
Get outta my mind
Get into my life
Oooooooooh
Oh I said hey (Hey) you (You)
Get into my car

Oh baby

Lady driver
Let me take your wheel
Smooth operator
Touch my bumper (Bumper)
Hey, let's make a deal
Make it real
Like a road runner
Coming after you
Just like a hero
Outta the blue
I'll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my dreams
Get into my car
Get outta my dreams
Get in the back seat baby
Get into my car
Beep beep, yeah
Get outta my mind
Get into my life
Oooooooooh
Oh I said hey (Hey) you (You)
Get into my car

Oh baby, let's go

I said open the door
(Get in the back)
Tread on the floor
(Get on the track)

Yeah (Yeah) Yeah (Yeah)
Yeah (Yeah) Yeah (Yeah)
Let's go

Oh baby
Ooooh, woooow, yeah

I'll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey Cinderella
Step in your shoe
I'll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my... Get outta my...
Get outta my dreams
Get into my car
Get outta my dreams
Get in the back seat baby
Get into my car
Beep beep, yeah
Get outta my mind
Get into my life
Oooooooooh
Oh I said hey (Hey) you (You)
Get into my, hey (Hey) you (You)
Get into my, hey (Hey) you (You)
Get into my car

I Try To Say Goodbye And I Choke

It is so hot here! I am trying to stay as still as possible and drinking water constantly. I saw Jim’s theme for Song Lyric Sunday is break up songs. I googled break up songs for inspiration and an old favourite popped up. Although to be honest, I never thought of this song as a break up song.

Macy Gray’s awesome voice really sets fire to this song “I Try”. When you read through the lyrics, I suppose they could possibly fit the “breakup” category, or maybe it is more of an unrequited love scenario? You can decide that.

It’s a brilliant track which is why I am featuring it today!

Games, changes, and fears
When will they go from here?
When will they stop?
I believe that fate has brought us here
And we should be together, babe
But we're not

I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you
I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin

I try to say goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near
Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near

I may appear to be free
But I'm just a prisoner of your love
I may seem alright and smile when you leave
But my smiles are just a front, just a front

I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you
I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin

I try to say goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near
Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near

Here is my confession
May I be your possession
Boy, I need your touch
Your love kisses, and such
With all my might I try
But this I can't deny, deny

I play it off, but I'm dreaming of you
I'll keep my cool, but I'm fiendin

I try to say goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near
Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near

Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near

Saturday Snaps

Another memory from trips to Liverpool. The Albert Docks are an amazing place for tourists and visitors to explore. One of the very popular features is a museum called The Beatles Story, where you can learn so much about the fab four and how their lives changed when they were catapulted to super-stardom.

Impossible to mention The Beatles without enjoying some of their music!

Can Anyone Compare To Beyoncé?

Jim wants us to compare songs today, and I thought it gave me the chance to mention one of my favourites on the music scene since I can remember: Beyoncé

Awesome! Totally awesome. One of her biggest hits is “Crazy In Love” and as far as I was concerned, nonone -but noone – could ever ever compare with Beyoncé. So I was shocked when I heard Sofia Karlberg’s version – wow!

Please enjoy Sofia’s sensational cover of “Crazy In Love” and then watch Beyoncé in a live performance – she is amazing!!

I look and stare so deep in your eyes
I touch on you more and more every time
When you leave I’m begging you not to go
Call your name two or three times in a row
Such a funny thing for me to try to explain
How I’m feeling and my pride is the one to blame, yeah
‘Cause I know I don’t understand
Just how your love can do what no one else can

Got me looking so crazy right now, your love’s
Got me looking so crazy right now
Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
Got me looking so crazy right now
Got me hoping you’ll page me right now, your kiss
Got me hoping you’ll save me right now
Looking so crazy in love’s
Got me looking, got me looking so crazy in love

When I talk to my friends so quietly
Who he think he is? Look at what you’ve done to me
Tennis shoes, don’t even need to buy a new dress
You ain’t here, ain’t nobody else to impress
It’s the way that you know what I thought I knew
It’s the beat that my heart skips when I’m with you
But I still don’t understand
Just how your love can do what no one else can

Got me looking so crazy right now, your love’s
Got me looking so crazy right now
Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
Got me looking so crazy right now
Got me hoping you’ll save me right now, your kiss
Got me hoping you’ll save me right now
Looking so crazy in love’s
Got me looking, got me looking so crazy in love

Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
Got me looking so crazy right now
Got me hoping you’ll page me right now, your kiss
Got me hoping you’ll save me right now
Looking so crazy in love’s
Got me looking, got me looking so crazy in love
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no

We Could Be Lifted

So my thoughts when I saw the theme for today’s Song Lyric Sunday were – please define elevator music. I checked for an online description and it seemed to refer to easy listening music that is played in public places to keep people chilled out.

So that is probably quite a wide umbrella of music. I chose a song that to me is very easy going and uplifting. I also think it has a slight elevator connection as the title of the song is “Lifted”. What?! Come on – I am trying!

This is from a band called “The Light House Family. Have an easy mellow Sunday and enjoy the elevator music party over at Jim’s!

I'd really love to be alone without all the
Ache and pain and the April showers
But it ain't long before I long for you, like a
Ray of hope, coming through the blue moon

When it all gets dark again
The whole thing falls apart I guess
It doesn't really matter 'bout the rain
'cause we'll get through it anyway
We'll get up and start again

'cause we could be Lifted, Lifted, Lifted
We could be Lifted
From the shadows, lifted
Oh we could be, lifted up today
Lifted all the way, you and I forever
Baby, lifted, lifted, lifted, hey

It's undisturbable the peace we found
In a bright new space up above the clouds
Everything is understandable
You don't have to say anything too loud

When all our luck runs out again
We're brought back down to solid ground
I wouldn't say I'm mad about the rain
But we'll get through it anyway
We'll get back to the start again

'cause we could be lifted, lifted, lifted
We could be lifted
From the shadows, lifted
Oh we could be, lifted up today
Lifted all the way, you and I forever
Baby, lifted, we could be lifted, we could be lifted, hey

We could be lifted, we could be lifted, we could be lifted
You and I forever
We could be lifted, we could be lifted, yeah we could be lifted
We could be lifted up to new horizons

Lifted, lifted up today, lifted all the way, yeah we could be lifted
We could be lifted, from the shadows, we could be lifted
Lifted upto new horizons
When it all gets dark again, it doesn't really matter 'bout the rain
When it all gets dark again, it doesn't really matter 'bout the rain

Just A Step From Heaven

So I had a little help from the Aunties to pick a song for today. I like their choice a lot. I hope you do too.

Jim said to pick a song on the theme of heaven or hell – which of those appeals to me the most? But other than religious songs, I was struggling to think of more mainstream music to feature.

Well…with help from the Aunties, I have picked a song called “Just A Step From Heaven” which is by a girl group called Eternal.

It’s a great hip hop soul number and the chorus brings the song to life.

Tell me that we still belong
Tell me that the will is still alive
There must be another chance for us tonight
'Coz everyone who's walked upon
Trouble or lies, they come and go
We can be the lucky ones
And find love, after the storm

Don't let go
'Coz it's just a step from heaven
And the strength of love is on our side
Soon you'll find
That our faith will take us higher
'Coz we're just a step
Baby just a step from heaven

We don't need to justify our emotions
We don't need to worry 'coz if they hold on
There's a bigger destiny that was made for us
So don't let troubles bring you down
Believe in the foundation of our love
Can't you see my faith in you
Is forever and more
Don't let go
'Coz it's just a step from heaven
And the strength of love is on our side
Soon you'll find
That our faith will take us higher
'Coz we're just a step
Baby just a step from heaven
Heaven, oh yeah
Heaven, oh yeah

Baby can't you see
This love was meant to be
We can rise above this pain in our hearts

Don't let go 'coz it's just a step from heaven
And the strength of love is on our side
Soon you'll find
That our faith will take us higher
'Coz we're just a step
Baby just a step from heaven
Heaven
